Tentacle hand...

...and the eye of terror!
Been awhile since I posted...
Work has been/is still/will be till the end of my life crazy... (really should be getting ready for work now instead of doing this blog thing)

It took me SO long to get those goddamned sucker things to look right, I became a bit mad (obsessively painting every minute detail in every single sucker - which you can't see unless you're zoomed in like 300%) Hai... I really struggled colouring this drawing... I kind of had this new stylized vision in my head, but when I started painting it all became mush and I fell back into my old style...

Illustration Friday: Tall

"He wore a tall pointed blue hat, a long grey cloak, and a silver scarf. He had a long white beard, and bushy eyebrows that stuck out beyond the brim of his hat" - Gandalf from Lord of the Rings.

Blobby

I discovered Gab Collab! Though I grabbed this blob right before she put up the new blob for this week, so I'm going to post it here instead.

I've been feeling a bit drained (mixture of Oppikoppi and doing a guest blog comic) and down (mainly my Mom harping on about how I'm getting old and should have children? I think that's what she was getting at...)

But my life is slowly coming together again, all my routines are falling back into place and so far this week has been content.

Here are some recipes I've been drooling over: coconut rice, awesome veggie burger, polenta & asparagus tart. Hmm...

New blog!

I have given in to my guinea pig obsession and have made a separate blog where now all guinea pig related ramblings will go. This picture makes me smile :D

Books I am reading

It says "The Ivy Scrouge" (in case you can't read it - I got a bit carried away, and by "scrouge" of course what I meant was "scourge" ) Waaa! despair denizens of Wildwood!

Its taking me really long to read this book, mainly because I kept reading 1984 as well. But its entertaining to read, and has beautiful illustrations - what more would you ask for? Tis a book I will re-read and treasure.

Their website/blog is also awesomely cool (and full of pretty drawings!)

Its amazing! I have not read a classic in ages so it was like snuggling into a cozy nest of well written literature and big words (none of which I can now remember). The ending was sad though :(

Portraits from Hel Looks

A friend gifted me a Moleskine sketch book for my birthday (the most perfect present ever! Long coveted by lil old me but I would always gag at the price before ever getting to the checkout). It is amazing! I'm never going to draw in anything else! It also seems to miraculously play nicely with my technical pen (deemed exclusive enough for ya? Stupid pen that clogs up randomly - from paper fibers? - on regular printer paper!). Yes I love and hate this pen so much that I speak to it.

These portrait drawings are from pictures from Hel Looks, an awesome site.

Journal doodles

Some pages from my doodle sketch book, its nice and compact so I've been very good with whipping it out in random places and doing some drawing ^_^

Motivational quote!

I saw this nice quote today via Laura Berger's blog. It made me think of my friend Melanie who went off to Australia to pursue her dream of working on movies and what not involving operating a complex program called flame and writing code and explosions and other such glamorous and complicated stuff. I miss my friend, she's cooky and wildly funny in a morbid way, like Wednesday mixed with a kitten, so this is for her :)

Vladimir Putin : Action Man

Linkdin sent me this link today, I loved how the article paints him as some kind of action hero - oh the blatant propaganda! Well maybe he does enjoy all of those things, but the idea of an ex Russian president running around arm wrestling etc is still amusing. The photos also made me think of this blog called Kim Jung Il looking at things which made me have a good chuckle. So here's my rendition of "Vladimir Putin darting whales..."

Illustration Friday: Boundaries

Boundaries made me think of primary school when the girls and boys had to share a desk and how we'd divide our desk down the middle and neither must cross into the other's half of the desk...I think I was super anal about elbow space or something.

Mid Autumn Festival

Yay I love Mid Autumn Festival and moon cakes! This is a traditional Chinese festival in Autumn when the moon is at its fullest (usually mid Aug to mid Sept). It is customary to eat moon cakes at this time - we tried
out these Taiwanese moon cakes this year (they have pineapple and sour berry flavoured filling instead of the more traditional bean paste filling). They are pretty and delicious! There are many Chinese myths and customs surrounding the moon, so I made an explanatory doodle to help explain ^_^

Real doodles

I recently spoiled myself with some moleskin sketch books (damn you Herbert Evans and your annual sale that make things seem like they are really cheap but not!) Unfortunately they were not blank pages as I expected, but I love them nonetheless. So here's some doodling from home, work, on the train and at the boyfriend's flat....

Illustration Friday : Imperfect

Ike has a manufacturer's fault, as a bird holder he is absolutely useless as some one neglected to install a gate for his cage head, but he's happier than any robot will ever be.

Coloured pencils (which I haven't used in so long!) and pen.
